65.8% of small and mid-sized businesses still have no mobile presence

3.2 million small and mid-sized businesses in the UK have no mobile presence –  according to a survey conducted by OnePoll – which could result in the loss of profits of £52.6bn in the next year alone.

The survey, which featured 500 businesses, found that 65.8% of smaller companies have yet to build a mobile presence, even though consumers are increasingly accessing business’ sites via their mobile devices.

The survey’s results showed that small companies are not aware of the significance having a mobile presence has, with only 18.4% of the correspondents stating an intent to adopt a mobile presence.  This statistic is surprising as the number of people using their mobile phones to access the web has doubled in the last three years, with approximately 5% of all retail sales coming through this platform.

The main barriers to creating a mobile platform were a lack of technical knowledge (46%), followed by the potential cost (36%), and finally by an uncertainty in the value a mobile presence would have to their business (35%).

Apps builder, who commissioned the survey, are holding a free, virtual event from the 21 to 25 of July in order to provide small and mid-sized businesses with more information on adopting an online presence.
